Keepers of the Patos Light is an association
You may be surprised to learn how much we don’t know about the history of the Patos Island lighthouse. The most famous keeper during the U.S. Lighthouse Service years was Edward Durgan, keeper from 1905 to 1913, and father of the heroine of “The Light on the Island”. However, we don’t have the names of any of the other keepers during those years.
We also have a few names of the men, and their families, who were stationed on Patos Island in the years that the U.S. Coast Guard manned the lighthouse. We’re learning more about these years as we hear from others who’ve served on the island.
But, there are a lot more pieces of the puzzle to be filled in. If you have any information, experiences, or pictures to add to the Patos story, please submit them below. Anything you send us could be invaluable in completing the history of the Patos Island Light Station.
Your stories and pictures don’t have to be historical, though. We’d love to hear about your adventures on the island. We all have memorable times we like to think back on, if you have any of Patos that you’d like to share with us, please do, we’d love to hear from you.
